The National Diet and Nutrition Survey is funded by UK government departments and delivered by a partnership of research and survey organisations.

The survey provides evidence to support government policy and to monitor diet and nutritional health across the UK.
The survey is overseen by the NDNS Project Board which is managed by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), part of DHSC, and meets 3-4 times a year.

Organisations delivering NDNS
NDNS is carried out jointly by IMS Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge and the National Centre for Social Research who operate as a Consortium. The day-to-day running of NDNS is managed by the Consortium organisations.
IMS Epidemiology
IMS Epidemiology provides scientific leadership for NDNS, leading work on dietary assessment (Intake24, to collect information about foods and drinks consumed), physical activity, nutritional biomarkers analysis, data interpretation and results reporting.
The survey is led and delivered through the IMS Epidemiology Nutrition Measurement Platform.
We also provide advisory input and oversight for biological samples collection, and clinical review.
Scientific leadership is provided by the MRC Epidemiology Unit with activities led and delivered through the Nutrition Measurement Platform for the measurement of diet, physical activity and nutritional biomarkers, including assessment of energy expenditure (doubly-labelled water). We also provide advisory input and oversight for biological samples collection, and clinical review. Our partner organisation NatCen Social Research (NatCen) and contract lead, undertake survey design and sampling, and set up and manage fieldwork including biomedical fieldworker visits and data collection form design and implementation.
We take responsibility for interpretation and providing the scientific interface with the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) and government and, in conjunction with our partner organisation NatCen and OHID, we produce official statistics results reports.

National Centre for Social Research (NatCen)
We provide the survey in partnership with NatCen who are the contract lead for NDNS.
NatCen lead on survey design and sampling, administering survey questionnaires, and carry out participant recruitment and fieldwork.
